Bookplanet: this year's Pulitzers

Marilynne Robinson won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction, for "Gilead," a Reverend's letter to his 7-year-old son. John Patrick Shanley won the prize for drama for "Doubt, a Parable," set in a Roman Catholic school in the Bronx in the 1960's. (Both religious subjects.) Steve Coll won the general nonfiction award for "Ghost Wars: The Secret History of the C.I.A., Afghanistan and bin Laden, From the Soviet Invasion to September 10, 2001." David Hackett Fischer won the history prize for "Washington's Crossing." Mark Stevens and Annalyn Swan won the biography prize for "De Kooning: An American Master." Ted Kooser, the nation's poet laureate, won the poetry prize for "Delights & Shadows." Steven Stucky won the prize in music for "Second Concerto for Orchestra."
