The art of hiphop?
I know hiphop is the voice of a new generation, but since much of rap is ...
1. criminally violent
2. off-puttingly ultra-macho
3. scarily misogynist
4. bling-bling besotted ...
what kind of a generation does it represent -- the shallowest, sexistist, male posturist, criminal-lauding generation ever? Sure, there is a lot of irony and winking and teasing and hyperbolic fun going on, and the best of it is, in the end, art -- what isn't? -- but what other group would have the freedom to lay out such politically incorrect postures? This is the one freedom of the oppressed in a freedom-of-speech society -- to say anything without being outright damned and marginalized.
