Adam's blogbox: my prediction for the November elections
Says the NY Times: "Three years ago, the United States invaded Iraq. We can all run the story through our minds: Shock and Awe, Coalition of the Willing, Mission Accomplished, looting, 'Stuff happens,' no W.M.D., suicide bombers, purple fingers, blasted shrine."
That kind of sums it up, doesn't it? Just add "civil war" and you've got the whole story.
Now, I believe, the endgame is upon us. The great debate of the November elections will be: should we pull out of Iraq pronto or not? And watch how the Democratic Party will continue to run away from this debate -- and from the one honest pol in the US, Jack Murtha.
I predict now: those who say we should pull out ASAP will win seats. And those who say we should stay the course, will have trouble hanging on to their seats.
Not that anyone has the slightest idea what course we're on in Iraq, except getting our boys and gals blown up by IEDs.
I predict total disarray in both parties as at least 80% of the American people will say we should pull out, and neither party will have the guts to do something about it.
The November elections are going to be one big fat farce, as people power runs up against political party powerlessness. The American people will be asking themselves a very interesting question: if politicians are our elected representatives, why aren't they representing our views? Who knows, maybe the people will finally get totally fed up and march on Washington to bodily throw the bums out of Congress.
