41. ADAM AND EZRA TALK

Ezra turned to Adam. “Tell me about your program, Adam,” Ezra said, as he placed an arm around Eve’s shoulders. “It’s amazing to see you here, Eve,” he said, looking at Eve tucked under his arm.

“It surely is, isn’t it?” said Eve. She thought she might like the new Ezra more than she liked the old one. She enjoyed the little thrust and parry they just had. It seemed more measured than what they’d gone through years before. Ezra had aged well: more attractive now. The skeletal armature of his bones was preferable to the rounded pudginess of youth. Some men gained an attractive cragginess with age, and he was one of them.

“I’ll leave you three kids to it,” said Joshua and moved on.

“Joshua wants this contentious program about Creationism,” said Adam.

“What a good idea,” said Ezra. “You as the host with guests on various sides of the debate?”

“Yes.”

“Does the field have much controversy?”

“Absolutely,” said Adam. “I myself am an Old Age Creationist, which is tantamount to the orthodoxy, but the Young Age Creationists are coming at us with a vengeance. They believe God created everything in six days flat, while we believe He had some time on His hands.”

“The guests don’t all have to be experts, do they?” asked Ezra. “They simply need to be people with strong opinions, and a populist touch. Experts can be boring.”

“Absolutely,” said Adam. “We could get people from entertainment and other fields. Even someone like Jeremiah Luther.”

Ezra’s eyes gleamed. “Now that’s an idea. You could ask him if he really believes the Rapture is as imminent as he claims it is.”

“The Rapture. The final step of Creation Science. In the final analysis, the most natural selection of all. When the chosen ascend to heaven, and the others remain left behind on earth.”

“The ratings would go through the roof. How would you approach him?”

Eve saw the older female, the companion of the very handsome young man, go towards the buffet table.

“Excuse me for a moment,” she said and followed the female. She felt drawn to the older woman like a baby to a nipple.
