Adam's blogbox - Stephen Colbert at the White House correspondents dinner

Yesterday I blogged the Bush-blasting speech by comedian and TV faux news host Stephen Colbert at the White House correspondents dinner (scroll down to read it -- "US Diary: Funnyman speaks truthiness to power").
Colbert performed in his TV character, as a fatuous rightwing news commentator a la Fox News.
In a speech dripping with funny, angry irony, he bitch-slapped Bush left right and center, while all the time, in character, proclaiming that he loved Bush.
Bush was sitting a few feet away. He was not amused. Neither was Laura.
Colbert didn't play by the rules -- comedians are invited to knock out affectionate barbs at the prez, not go for the jugular. What's more, Colbert broadsided the press corps itself. They didn't seem to be amused either.
Although the speech is all over the blogosphere, the major newspapers report ... nothing.
Funny, that.
It's a bizarre thing, indeed, and quite a comment on the fourth estate, when there is more truth coming out of the mouths of comedy faux news hosts like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert than out of the pens of actual journalists.
Young people are accused of shallowness because they get most of their news from comedians, but they might be on to something.
Personally, I find Jon Stewart a better source of the main news than the NY Times. He's the best newsman we have.
