THE SEX REBEL OF JESUSLAND, chapter 117
117. THE DEFENSE CROSS-EXAMINES RACHEL.
The attorney for the defense began his cross-examination.
“How long have you known the defendant?”
“Twelve years,” said Rachel.
“Were you close friends?”
“Yes.”
“Until these circumstances came about, would you say that, even if your association was illegal, that she was a good friend?”
“Yes.”
“So you were good friends -- you were kind and nice to each other.”
“Yes.”
“Was she your best friend?”
“Yes.”
“So why have you turned against her? Have you been paid off?”
“No. I will be reclassified and my daughter is receiving medical attention.”
“What’s the matter with your daughter?”
“She has tuberculosis.”
“She had tuberculosis before you became a witness?”
“Yes.”
“How serious was it?”
“She was going to die.”
“So you became a witness so that she could get medical attention?”
“Yes. And to get reclassified, so I could be eligible for medical attention.”
“This is how you are saving your daughter’s life?”
“Yes.”
“Now that may be an admirable motivation, we all love our children, but why should we believe anything you say when you are in effect trying to save your daughter’s life in the attempt?”
“Everything I say is true.”
“Would you say anything to save your daughter’s life?”
“I am not a liar. I am a good Christian woman.”
“I would like to draw the attention of the court to the fact that this woman has been elevated from V-doll in order to become a witness. Were you asked to be a witness or did you volunteer to be one?”
“I volunteered to be one.”
“In other words, you turned your friend in.”
“I volunteered to be a witness.”
“You betrayed your friend to save your daughter’s life?”
Tears ran down Rachel’s face. Eve looked at her and couldn’t hate her at that moment, although she did before and would afterwards.
“We’ll have another recess,” said the judge, and shook his head twice in irritation. “If this witness cries again, we’ll have to stop till tomorrow.” He looked at Rachel. “You’re really getting on my nerves, female.”
