Adam's blogbox: the race for the US presidency

Jesus H. Christ. The race for the presidency has NEVER started this early. And the field seems pretty open, even though Hillary appears to be the 800-pound gorilla.

The Democrats have some really good candidates: Hillary, Obama, Edwards, Richardson.

The Republican candidates, although not nearly as exciting, are not too shabby either: McCain, Giuliani, Romney. Mind you, McCain is a bit of a throwback, Giuliani is very touchy (as non-New Yorkers will find out soon enough), and Romney, well, he excites me about as much as a dried-out doughnut.

But between the four Dems mentioned, we've got some ferocious talents: the super-efficient Hillary, the super-charismatic Obama, the I'm-for-the-poor Edwards, and the experienced governor and ex-Cabinet Secretary Richardson (plus he's Latino, though quite gringo-like, too). Altogether, a solid lot -- any one of them will be a far, far better president than the current incumbent.

Mind you, my nephew's anus would make a better president than the current incumbent. A plain rock would be better, since a plain rock can't start wars.

Interesting thing about McCain and Giuliani: neither of them is a crazy ideologue. Giuliani is so far to the left of his party's base, it's almost miraculous that he has a shot. The GOP needs someone like him to moderate the crazies out to the margin from the center that they are occupying under the current incumbent.

Another good thing: all the candidates are a whole lot smarter than the current incumbent, besides NOT being ideologically crazed. Whoever makes it, the return to sanity will be much appreciated by everyone in America -- not to mention the rest of the world.

I'm already beginning to sigh with relief. And if Hillary or Obama becomes president, I might well become ecstatic. God, what a difference it'll be, going from the present incumbent to Hillary or Obama. Finally, a president
(a) one can admire
(b) one wouldn't mind having lunch with
(c) who is eminently bonkable.

It's high time, folks. High time.
