The Republican land of the loonies
We're living in the land of the loonies. Now Congress has summoned a braindead woman to testify in front of them in order to have her feeding tube reinserted, since it's illegal to interfere with a witness summoned by Congress. Who is braindead--the woman or Congress? Why is Congress inserting themselves into this debate? For that matter, why is Congress having hearings on steroids? How is it possible that these crazies are our representatives? We are witnessing the decline of our rulers into bizarro land. Our CEOs are a bunch of crooks. 'As John Kenneth Galbraith once put it: "The salary of the chief executive of a large corporation is not a market award for achievement. It is frequently in the nature of a warm personal gesture by the individual to himself." Indeed, C.E.O. pay increased most rapidly at companies with weak governance and few shareholder rights, according to a study this year by Lucian Bebchuk of Harvard and Yaniv Grinstein of Cornell.' More here. Overpaid CEOs, loony pols. What does that make us? In related news, Yale Professor Craphogger has removed a feeding tube from a frog that a student of his kept alive in the hopes that the frog was her prince.
