An answering machine can cost you $236m
Fuck me with a computer voice. Here's a truly amazing story about how your phone system can cost you REAL money.
Joan Croc, the widow of McDonald's founder Ray Croc, bequeathed $236m to NPR. Dick Starmann, who helped direct her charitable giving, said he called both NPR and PBS at Ms. Kroc's request. At PBS, "I got into the electronic queue and I never got through to anyone live," he said. He said he left one message, perhaps two. No one responded.
Holy mad cow.
