Looks like we'll be out of Iraq by end of 2006
60% of Americans, according to recent polls, favor U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq. In Washington, Republican Rep. Walter Jones, a war advocate who wanted "French fries" renamed "freedom fries" because France refused to sign on, joined a group of colleagues Thursday in introducing a House resolution calling for the president to announce a plan for withdrawal by year's end -- and to begin executing it by Oct 1, 2006. Fellow Republican Rep. Ron Paul of Texas is a co-sponsor, with Dems Abercrombie and Kucinich. Other House Republicans indicate they'll support a resolution calling for an exit strategy. Their eyes set on re-election, they must think it's time to distance themselves from Bush.
Sounds very much like the beginning of the end, doesn't it? Be interesting if we withdraw on Bush's watch. Imagine the spin: be funny to hear. This is one administration that may end in a self-induced flame-out.
