NYC has a great Mayor

Mayor Bloomberg is the best mayor New York has ever had. So he gets things totally wrong sometimes, like his idea for a stadium on Manhattan's West Side, a huge favor for a rich friend, with which Bloomberg wanted to snare the Olympics for NYC. But he gets other things right: his education reforms seem to be working. He's careful with money; he doesn't overspend. He's a pragmatist.
Most important of all, the city is not divided along party lines. Would that our Federal government ran like our city does -- sans party politics. Politics don't matter that much to Bloomberg. He dropped being a Democrat and became a Republican so he could run for Mayor. He doesn't run the city like a Democrat or a Republican. He has no ideology. He has no stake in any culture war. He just wants to run a solvent city.
Unlike Bush and company, he values competence over everything else. When he loses, like he lost over the stadium, he just switches agendas and moves on. God, what a relief. New York City is a model for how our country should be run -- sensibly, without ideology, and without lies.
