The Bernie Ebbers 25-year sentence
When I heard that Bernie Ebbers got 25 years, effectively a life sentence (he'll get out when he's 85), I sighed a sigh of relief. I'm a victim of hyped shares myself (though not criminally hyped). At last, a bloody-minded signal from the authorities that white-collar criminals on the Street will be treated as harshly as drug dealers on the street. About time. Here's hoping CEOs will think twice about pulling a Worldcom or an Enron again. If this is what it takes to keep them honest, so be it. Next target: the insane amounts of money they make, even when they do a bad job.
