128. THE NEXT VIDEO.

Ezra looked sad but excited. He sat Adam in front of a TV set in his studio.

“Look at this, Adam. I’m going to hold this back, maybe till next week, after my network has devoted a full weekend to various discussions about the outcome of Eve’s trial. But I want you to see this. I can show it to you because you’re a Blessed now, and you get to see things before we Blesseds let the Beloveds know.”

He slipped in the DVD.

“We may not show this at all. Maybe we’ll just announce his death. We’ll decide what we want to do. Maybe we’ll wait until we want to do something about the Muslims in Nevada, and we need the Beloveds to hate them sufficiently to justify what we want to do. Quite frankly, we may decide to bomb the camp to reduce their numbers.”

Ezra put on the video that he had just received from a secret source attached to the Muslim Brotherhood. Joshua Grant sat in front of four masked men. They put a hood over his head. Then one man read from a piece of paper in Arabic. The translation appeared at the bottom of the screen.

“We have asked the authorities for two simple demands. We want our women to wear headscarves or veils, so the Christian infidel guards cannot see their hair or their faces, and we want our men to wear rubber gloves while they sort the filth of the Christian infidels.

“The deadline has passed, and we have heard nothing from the Christian authorities. We have in our hands the man who was going to be their president, a leader of the Christians. We promised that we would kill him if our demands were not met, and they have not been met. We have made honorable demands of which everyone can see the justice. We did not ask for our people to be set free. We merely asked for them to be treated with dignity, according to their faith. The United States Under God calls itself a nation of believers, a nation of faith, but how do they express their belief? By insulting the faith of others. There is only one way to answer this insult. We will kill this man. But we are not his killers. It is the United States Under God who is killing this man, because the Christians refuse to honor our demands. They are the ones responsible for his death. Allah is great.”

One of the masked men stepped forward with a knife. He took Joshua Grant’s head by the hair, his fingers grabbing the hair through the hood, and lifted the head so that the neck was stretched. Then he dug the knife into the side of Joshua Grant’s neck. He pulled it across Joshua Grant’s neck in a hard motion. The skin parted, and the blood peeled out. The masked man changed his grip on the knife and sawed at the throat, back and forth. The knife cut through, until there was a great gash as he pulled the head back. Adam thought he could see the organs of the throat before the blood engulfed them. The man sawed and sawed, until the head was bent right back while the body of Joshua Grant leaned forwards. When the knife got to the back of the neck, it stuck at the bone of the spine. The masked man now had the head of Joshua Grant against his chest, as he sawed to get through the bone, and finally found a purchase between the digits of the bone, and with a final flourish, the body fell free from the head and toppled, letting out blood in a great gush as the neck fell forward, and shook the blood of the body out on the floor, where the body lay twitching.

The masked man held the hooded head high. Drops of blood fell from it. He took the head and stuck it on the end of the knife, and held the severed head up by the knife, like a piece of melon stuck on the end of a stick.

“Death to the infidels!” he shouted. “Death to the Christians!”
