THE SEX REBEL OF JESUSLAND, chapter 127

127. THE JUDGE.

The judge looked relieved. Summation time. He wouldn’t have to tolerate any more weeping witnesses.

“The jury will take all the evidence into consideration. The facts are beyond dispute. Murder was committed. The jury’s main task is to find if there were any extenuating circumstances.

“You have heard the evidence of the accused’s best friend who was privy to her innermost thoughts. Your verdict depends on whether you find this friend a credible witness, despite the attempts of the attorney for the defense to cast aspersions on her veracity by saying it was done merely for the sake of her daughter.

“You should also take into account that the accused has refused to give the name of the man who impregnated her, another stubborn refusal to obey our sacred laws. She had declared to the Patriot Unit that she didn’t tell him she was pregnant, but for all we know he may have wanted to marry her, and she refused him, another transgression.

“The defense has come up with an ingenious excuse at the last moment, that the accused was raped. There’s no evidence for this. It’s sheer speculation. Did you see shame on the face of the accused when he brought up this theory? I didn’t. She sat there as stony-faced as she has sat throughout. She shows no emotion, no shame, no sorrow for this terrible deed.

“You may find that the accused has broken the law at every turn. If you find that, the sentence can be nothing but death. This is the first case of its kind, so you must decide with due and thorough deliberation, knowing that you will be setting a precedent for the future, a precedent our lawmakers had in mind when they made these sacred laws.

“We are a society who stands for life, not death, and when our stand for life is traduced in this manner, we will answer it with death. Thank you. Go and do your duty.”
