Bookplanet: top authors make filthy lucre by the shitload

Forbes had one of their richest people lists, and this was a list of celeb types, as opposed to business types. From the richest on down: George Lucas, Oprah Winfrey, Mel Gibson, Tiger Woods, Steven Spielberg, and DAN BROWN -- a fucking writer no less. Last year he earned $76.5m off Da Vinci Code. Not far behind was J.K. Rowling with $59.1m, which will be a whole lot more this year now that she has a new Harry Potter coming out to magically abracadabra money out of kiddie pockets into her own. Next is Nora Roberts with $28.8m, followed closely by the writing factory James Patterson with $27m. All fiction writers. (Screw you, NY Times Book Review, for concentrating on nonfiction writers over fiction; you don't know where the big money's going.) The last author on the list, non-fiction Arthur Agatston, got a measly $16m for the South Beach Diet book franchise.
