Weird World: Popemobile's number plate goes for 285,000 British sterling

Roman Abramovich has paid £285,000 for a number plate originally made for Pope John Paul II. The Chelsea owner paid the huge amount for the VIP 1 registration. The registration was first seen on the Popemobile when John Paul toured Ireland in 1979. According to the Mirror a source said: "Roman is normally very security-conscious. But the lure of owning the most exclusive number plate in the world was too much for him."
