The moon sang last night
The moon looked great last night and cast a wonderful light. Sometimes it had two clouds artfully draped across it. Sometimes it had a steamy penumbra around it. So I sat down and wrote a little ditty, The Moon Song:
If I were the moon
I'd be charging for tonight
it's not that I'm some hard-hearted capitalist
but really, icecream costs
but the moon is free
a coffee costs
but the moon is free
there's a moral here, better throw it out
the moon doesn't have earthly responsibilities
just to hang in there
and remind us
love costs
but the moon is free
The Eternal Woman saw me writing, came up to me, and asked, "What are you writing?" I replied, "A lyric about the moon." I read it to her. After I'd finished reading, the Eternal Woman looked at me, smiled winningly, and said: "I cost - a lot. Write that down."

Your encounter with the Eternal Woman reminds me of a recent conversation with a friend about the greatest songwriters of all time in which I suddenly re-remembered how awesome Willie Nelson is. Admittedly, you may not like his delivery, but this guy's got the lyrics. "Right or wrong, a woman can own any man."
I like the moon song. You are now in my list of great songwriters.
Thank you. It came out in a flash. I'll have to write more.
